GEEK USB DAC: Odd Sounding Name but With Sweet Sound

August 26th - via: everythingusb.com
The latest Kickstarter to catch our attention is the Light Harmonic GEEK, an ultra-portable USB amplifier that uses very decent DACs with a form factor small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. On its own, this would not make it all that noteworthy; however, this one - unlike many homebrew amps - has been designed and created by the same engineers behind the Da Vinci DAC. (Read More)

This Portable Headphone Amp Could Change You Enjoy Music

August 21st - via: crunchwear.com
Listening to music, or just hearing stuff in general, is one of the most important things we can do. It’s one of our five senses, after all. Even though it’s so important, we always settle for less than stellar sound quality when it comes to consuming entertainment. How many times have you watched a movie on your laptop, leaning in forward in a vain attempt to hear what the characters are saying? How many times have you walked around your neighborhood jamming your favorite album with crappy earbuds. Digital audio converters, or DAC, is a relatively new genre of tech that seeks to make the stuff we listen to sound, well, better. (Read More)

GEEK: A New USB Awesomifier for Headphones

August 19th - via: audiophilia.com
Light Harmonic makes three pieces, the Da Vinci DAC and Da Vinci Dual DAC ($20,000 and $31,000, respectively) and the LightSpeed USB cable ($999-$1999). The DACs are benchmarks in the market; precision instruments, handmade for each individual order. I heard the ‘cheap’ one at last year’s Denver show, and even under show conditions, the fantastic performance of the Da Vinci was easy to hear. Truly magnificent sounds. I would love to hear the DAC hooked up to speakers such as Focal Stellas, Raidho D-1s or Magicos. That would be something! (Read More)
