David Gerrold Interview Part One: Kickstarting “The Star Wolf” Onto Screens
May 9th - via: foesofreality.com
If there were a dictionary entry for “storied career in science fiction literature and television,” a serious case could be made for writer David Gerrold as the definition. Gerrold’s first break came at age 23 when he was hired to write the classic Star Trek episode The Trouble with Tribbles in 1967. Rather than fold under the expectations of early success, Gerrold continued to produce quality science fiction scripts and literature right up to the present day. His career now spans over four decades, 50-plus books, Hugo and Nebula awards, and numerous television credits including The Land of the Lost, Babylon 5, various incarnations of Star Trek, and many more. Star Trek Kickstarter Campaign For David Gerrold's THE STAR WOLF Under Way
May 9th - via: startrek.com
David Gerrold’s best-selling THE STAR WOLF book series just might become a television series, that is if enough Star Wolf, Star Trek and Gerrold fans back Gerrold and several other Star Trek alumni via a Kickstarter campaign created to raise the $650,000 needed to shoot a Star Wolf pilot. The Star Wolf centers on a crew of regular people caught up in an interplanetary war between makind and the Morthans, fearsome creatures who prefer to eat their enemies alive. The talent pool committed to The Star Wolf includes not just Gerrold (the writer of “The Trouble with Tribbles”), but also legendary Star Trek writer-producer D.C. Fontana and David C. Fein, producer of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition. (Read More)

Star Wolf Is A Sci-Fi Book That Should Be A Television Series
May 5th - via: winextra.com
Last week I got turned on to a science fiction writer by the name of David Gerrold and his Star Wolf trilogy thanks to a post at Blastr. Now I’m not a really big fan of trilogies, since most of them feel like they are being dragged out by the author, but I decided to give at least the first book a shot since it sounded interesting. May 4th - via: goodcomics.comicbookresources.com
Not comics this week, just comics-adjacent. But I think it’s a story you’ll enjoy, and also a chance to help out with something really cool. Here’s how it started. Long ago, in 1966, there was a theater arts student at USC who wanted to write science fiction TV and movies. Good stuff, that is, like Forbidden Planet. (Read More)

Star Wolf Kickstarter Series Reunites Trek Vets David Gerrold And D.C. Fontana
May 2nd - via: giantfreakinrobot.com
Kickstarter is the new hot thing these days, with high-profile projects from people like Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and Scrubs actor Zack Braff making headlines with projects on the crowdfunding site. One questions that’s been asked quite a few times is simply this: Why should I give some famous person my hard-earned money to make their thing when I’m not going to profit from it myself? Of course, your pledge will get you goodies ranging from the banal to the extravagant, but it’s a vaild point. Ultimately, the only reason to donate to a Kickstarter project is if you are excited about it and you want to help make it happen. In that spirit, here’s one for your consideration: a new science fiction series based on David Gerrold’s Star Wolf novels. (Read More)
Star Trek Legends David Gerrold and D.C. Fontana Launch Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Star Wolf series
May 2nd - via: johnnyjaysays.blogspot.com
Ever since Rob Thomas launched his successful Kickstarter campaign to fund a Veronica Mars reunion movie several weeks back, sci fi fans have been buzzing about which genre shows will get a new life by this means as well (and you can read more about that by browsing through my previous Kickstarter Fallout posts). But then we all seem to have ignored the next logical progression: a completely new series funded this way. But Star Trek veteran David Gerrold did not and he has started up a campaign to fund an ongoing series based on his Star Wolf novels. (Read More)

Former Trek writers team up to launch new sci-fi show via Kickstarter
May 1st - via: scifilog.com
Tired of network TV? Two former Star Trek writers are, too, so they're turning to you to help make their next series. David Gerrold and D.C. Fontana got a big career boost thanks to their work on Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek. Fontana, one of Trek's very first writers, penned 10 episodes of the original series (some under pseudonyms), including "Tomorrow Is Yesterday," "This Side of Paradise" and "The Enterprise Incident," and later went on to a healthy screenwriting career that includes contributions to The Six Million Dollar Man, Kung Fu, Babylon 5 and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Gerrold first came on board after being impressed by the pilot, and began pitching scripts. He eventually contributed two episodes to the series, including the legendary "The Trouble With Tribbles," and later went on to write for the Star Trek animated series, Land of the Lost and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He also became an acclaimed novelist, with works like the Hugo- and Nebula Award-nominated The Man Who Folded Himself, the War Against the Chtorr series and the Hugo- and Nebula-winning novelette The Martian Child (made into a feature film in 2007). Help Two Great Davids Kickstart STAR WOLF!!
April 30th - via: aintitcool.com
Unless my memory completely fails me here, STAR WOLF - as a 'series concept' - has actually been around for some time now (I seem to recall having a script for it on my desk at one point?). But, and I can say this from personal experience, getting a series started is one tough motherfucking gig. No matter how qualified or brilliant a show's creators or pedigree may be...no matter how awesome a show's concept as a whole...a number of hugely complicated factors go into The Powers That Be's decision making processes regarding what gets made, what doesn't, and why. So much so that it's somewhat amazing any shows of any ilk are generated at all. (Read More)
