Kickstarter Katchup – June 30th 2013
June 30th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
Last week I was at Rezzed instead of looking at Kickstarter pages but I’ve made up for it by spending most of today browsing through projects. Thoughts of Kickstarter’s purpose have been hanging in the air (on twitter and in chatrooms that I frequent) and I have been pondering how I see the site. I have backed projects knowing that I’m essentially pre-ordering something that I assume will be released and will be as expected, based on the team’s previous work and a comfortable place in a familiar genre. But I mostly back smaller projects that I want to support and to play because they are different, risky and challenging. There’s a great deal of innovation among the nostalgia. (Read More)

Now that Armikrog is successfully funded, we can move on. You’ll need to break out the AA’s and Halogen lamps for two of our projects, and your compass for the third, woodsmen unite! (Read More)

Student Bodies: Our Darker Purpose
June 4th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
Our Darker Purpose is a story about a stylised school/orphanage from which all of the teachers have vanished, leaving the students to form factions and fight to the death, which is precisely what children do, as proven by the terrifying reality television show Lord of the Flies. To make matters worse, all of the furniture is haunted and most of it has teeth. And the school is sitting on top of an otherworldly abyss. With random item drops, character customisation and a Zelda-meets-roguelike vibe, the whole thing looks like Isaac has been dragged from the basement and dropped off at the boarding house on the borderlands. The little blighter even makes a cameo appearance. To nobody’s surprise, there’s a Kickstarter and a quarter of the $40,000 has almost been raised. (Read More)
