Fantasy TTRPG Revolt! Now On Kickstarter

British tabletop game designer Jason Price has crafted Revolt!, a tabletop RPG with card and map mechanics, and is now crowdfunding the game on Kickstarter.

The world of Revolt! is populated by insect characters who all have one goal: take down the tyrant Toad King, who seized power after a civil war and now rules the land with an iron webbed fist. You do this by traversing the included map and drawing cards to determine the situation, though your tasks will differ depending on what kind of game you’re playing.

Revolt! has two different modes for multiplayer and solo play. In the multiplayer, each participant is in control of a faction on the map. They explore other locations to gather support and resources. A card is drawn to see how well their efforts went (or how badly), and the next player takes their turn. Eventually the monarchy is defeated, but which faction assumes power will depend on which of you gathered the most support among the citizens.

In the solo campaign, you’re a dragonfly knight who is attempting to overthrow the Toad King themselves. This will be a harder task than in the multiplayer campaign, but if you can manage enough support, it is possible.

  • a simple GM-less roleplaying system that encourages storytelling and shared world-building, using an unlabelled realm map and a deck of prompts
  • a cast of eight characters and factions on double-sided cards, each with their own creeds and decrees to inspire your table or ease in reluctant roleplayers
  • three ways to playStandard Mode for one-shot play, Legacy Mode to create a unique, linked story across multiple games or Solo Mode for journalling fans
  • a game that’s easy to play in-person or online, with printer-friendly files, a free custom Miro board and rules compatible with a standard deck
  • a deluxe boxed edition, with everything you need to bring the game to the table, including a cloth map, 5 meeples and a deck of 78 tarot-sized cards

Revolt! comes in a digital edition for a $9 pledge, or a physical edition for a $17 pledge. The boxed edition costs $45. Keep in mind shipping has not been added to these price estimates. The Kickstarter will remain open until June 12.

I love tabletop RPGs with unique mechanics, and the combination of cards and a map for exploration has me curious. The two different modes for multiplayer and solo play offer great flexibility - team up with friends to take down the Toad King, or embark on a solo quest as a valiant dragonfly knight. The "simple GM-less" system is also a plus, making it easier to jump right into the game without needing a dedicated game master. I might have to check out the Kickstarter!

Oooh, a world-building RPG with insect characters? That's such a cool concept! I love how Revolt! encourages storytelling and shared world-building. The unlabeled map and deck of prompts sound like great tools to spark creativity and craft a truly unique experience each time you play. This would be a fantastic game for a group of friends who enjoy collaborative storytelling.

Three whole ways to play? Standard, Legacy, and Solo? Revolt! sounds like it offers a ton of replayability for the price. I love how it caters to different player preferences, whether you want a one-shot adventure, a multi-game campaign with a persistent narrative, or a solo journaling experience.

A GM-less RPG for under $20? Sign me up! This game sounds perfect for those casual game nights when you don't want to deal with the hassle of a complex rulebook or a designated game master. The option for printer-friendly files and a free online board makes it even more budget-friendly. This could be a great way to introduce new people to the world of tabletop RPGs. Also sometimes none of my friends wants the gm role
