Elegoo goes large with their colossal OrangeStorm Giga 3D Printer
Elegoo transforms the scale of 3D printing with their new OrangeStorm Giga 3D printer
Recent years have seen Elegoo quickly become one of the largest brands in the 3D printing world, and today they are taking things to a new level with their OrangeStorm Giga Kickstarter. With their latest printer, Elegoo have created a machine with a colossal build area that measures in at 800mm x 800mm x 800mm. Simply put, this 3D printer has a build area that puts most large 3D printers to shame, allowing users to create 3D printed projects of an incredible scale.
Earlier this year we talked about Sovol’s SV07 Plus, a “large format” 3D printer with a build area of 300mm x 300mm x 350mm. Elegoo makes this 3D printer look small compared to their OrangeStorm Giga. The Giga boasts a build volume that is over four times larger.
Elegoo’s OrangeStorm Giga Kickstarter campaign has already blasted past its funding goals. So far, this monster-sized 3D printer has raised over £2.3 million on Kickstarter. On Kickstarter, Elegoo are selling their huge 3D printers for as little as $1,250. At retail, Elegoo plans to sell their giga-sized 3D printer for $2,500.
Like Elegoo’s other 3D printers, the Orangestorm Giga makes use of Klipper firmware and can offer users fast printing speeds of up to 300mm/s. The 3D printer features a 7-inch screen that can be used to control projects. The printer also has a 300℃ nozzle to allow the printer to utilise a wide range of filament types.
To enable its huge scale, Elegoo have designed this printer with a durable body. The Giga features thicker Z-axis rods than smaller other 3D printers. The printer also features caterpillar cable tracks, which are a necessity for a machine of this size. Nobody wants loose cables on a machine this large.
The Elegoo Orangestorm Giga features four independent heatbeds
The huge 800×800 heated bed of the Elegoo’s new Orangestorm Giga 3D printer is made up of four independently controlled beds. Each of these beds can reach temperatures of up to 90-degrees. Elegoo stated that their Giga printer can reach these temperatures in 17 minutes (at an ambient temperature of 25℃). If you are not using all four bed areas of the printer, unused beds can be turned off. This decreases power use. Not every project has to take up this printer’s entire build volume.
Multi-nozzle printing
Users of the Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga can upgrade their machine with up to four nozzles. This allows the Giga to print up to four of the same model simultaneously. Using this feature, the Orangestorm Giga becomes an excellent machine for batch production. While the printer does not ship with four nozzles out of the box, the printer’s nozzles will be available as a standalone product.
A crazy 3D printer that can deliver huge 3D prints
Let’s be honest, most of us do not have the space for a 3D printer this large. This isn’t a desktop 3D printer, the build area of this printer alone is larger than most other 3D printers. That said, this printer enables the creation of projects or products that are unthinkable on smaller printers. The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga is a 3D printer for users who have ambitious projects.
