Eldritch Escape Tokyo

Eldritch Escape: Tokyo Now Live On Kickstarter

LionWing Publishing has brought over a lot of Japanese TTRPGs to the US, but you might not have heard of this one before. That’s because Eldritch Escape: Tokyo is the first tabletop game to be simultaneously released in both Japan and America at the same time. LionWing is working with design studio Draconian in Japan to pull this off, and the game’s English crowdfunding campaign was launched today.

In Eldritch Escape: Tokyo, the city mentioned in the title has been plunged into permanent darkness and horrific giant monsters now roam its streets! You’d think this would bother someone, but most of the citizens don’t seem to notice. They seem eerily clueless…almost as if they’re under the monsters’ control. Only a handful of citizens have escaped the Eldritch’s will and are now gearing up to fight back any way they can.

You and your friends will play those hunters, while the GM will assume the role of the Bellwether: a mysterious entity who may not EXACTLY be your friend, but provides guidance throughout the game and resurrects whoever falls to a monster. There’s no real dying in this one, but there are consequences. “As players repeatedly die and resurrect, they will gradually uncover the Eldritch’s weaknesses and unravel the mysteries of their terrifying existence,” reads the description. “But in this unforgiving realm, trust is a luxury, and the line between survival and transformation into something unrecognizable becomes increasingly blurred.”

You can get your own copy of Eldritch Escape: Tokyo by following this link and pledging to the 16-day campaign (yup, it’s a short one). The Digital Edition is a $15 pledge, a copy of the hardcover book (plus all stretch goals) is $35, and the full box set with lots of extras is $100. The campaign ends November 16.

Eldritch Escape: Tokyo? Now that's what I'm talking about! I'm all in, and I've already pledged for the full box set. This game's got that swagger, and I'm ready to roll with it.

Wow, Eldritch Escape: Tokyo sounds like an exciting tabletop game with all those monstrous creatures roaming around. I love the idea of uncovering the Eldritch's weaknesses and solving mysteries while battling these monsters. I can't wait to try it out with my pals

This game doesn't really appeal to me. I mean, playing a game where you repeatedly die and resurrect just doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I prefer games with a bit more strategy and less unpredictability.

I'm totally in for Eldritch Escape: Tokyo! The idea of a city in darkness and battling giant monsters is right up my alley. Plus, the Bellwether role sounds intriguing. I'm ready to pledge for that full box set with all the extras.

I'm not sure about this one. The concept of battling monsters in Tokyo is cool, but the idea of "no real dying" and the blurred line between survival and transformation is a bit confusing. I'd need more information to decide.
