Pan's Scheme Snap Filter for iPhone 14 – Now on Kickstarter

Snap Filter is an innovative filter system for iPhone that utilizes Apple’s MagSafe technology to hold itself in place. This filter lineup gives iPhone shooters creative options for cinematic shooting that are quick, easy, and fun. It is now live on Kickstarter with a fresh update for the iPhone 14. Let’s have a look at what it is all about!

Created by YouTuber Mediastorm and their company Pan’s Scheme, the Pan’s Snap Filter System is a simple and elegant concept. The system consists of two components; a filter tray that magnetically snaps to the back of the iPhone, and filter sets that snap-lock into place.

The filter system is designed to cover the entire rear camera array, too, so there is nothing to reposition and no adjustments to make when selecting iPhone lenses.

Snap Filter sets

Pan’s Scheme is currently offering 5 filter types for the Snap Filter system: ND Filter Bundle, Blue Streak, Gold Streak, Cross-star, and Black Mist.

Since all current iPhone models lack internal NDs, some type of neutral density filter is required to control the camera’s shutter speed in bright conditions. Streak filters add an ‘anamorphic-like’ flair to light sources. And, Black Mist filters smooth out digital sharpness for a more cinematic film look.

Competition

Mobile camera filters are nothing new. The market has been flooded with a slew of different systems for a very long time. What makes the newest generation of systems we’re seeing unique is their ability to cover the full lens array of the smartphone.

The chief competitor to Pan’s Snap Filter system comes from NiSi, a well-known filter brand, with their P-A Filter Series. However, the NiSi P-A Filter Series uses a clamp-on design that blocks a small portion of the front screen. The Snap Filter tray is held in place magnetically.

The NiSi IP-A Filter Series offers all of the same filters that are available for the Snap Filter and more.

It uses both a screw-on, stackable circular filter set and a square filter set allowing shooters to use gradient NDs. Snap Filters are not stackable.

Mobile phone photography and videography are set to explode in the next several years as the ease of use and quality of the images we are seeing improve exponentially. It’s great to see so many affordable solutions for creating professional-level results.
