The inXile Entertainment project reached its $900,000 (£591,230) goal inside 24 hours, and went on to exceed it by 465% following a 30-day fundraising campaign.

The feat makes Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter's second most successful gaming project overall, behind only the OUYA Android console, which generated $8.59 million (£5.64m) on the website.

inXile announced the venture on March 6, with Planescape: Torment lead designer Chris Avellone having joined the development team since then.

The game will not be a direct sequel to Planescape: Torment, instead taking place in a new world called Numenera, based on the Monte Cook tabletop RPG setting of the same name.
