Another Mega Man spiritual successor asks for Kickstarter donors for money

With Mighty No. 9 due to launch in September after two years of crowd-funded development, another Mega Man spiritual successor from the series’ creator opened this weekend and is now soliciting donations on Kickstarter.

The game project is Red Ash: The Indeligible Legend, and it already is $200,000 toward an $800,000 goal.

Comcept, the developing studio founded by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, says it needs that much money to deliver not a full game but rather an opening chapter called “The KalKanon Incident.”

Windows PC is the only platform announced for the game.

The companion anime is Red Ash: Magicicada, which is $46,0000 toward a $150,000 goal.

The Red Ash video game will feature characters from Mighty No. 9, which publishes Sept. 15 for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Windows PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

The video game — Red Ash: The Indeligible Legend — will be made by developers on the team behind Mega Man: Legends, the Nintendo 3DS game whose 2011 cancellation by Capcom triggered an avalanche of protest.

The anime — Red Ash: Magiciada — will be headed by the animation Studio 4ºC, known in the west for work on Halo Legends, ThunderCats, and Gotham Knights.

The new projects were announced this weekend at Anime Expo 2015.

The Red Ash anime fundraiser seeks $150,000 (though it says $2,480,000 will guarantee a feature-length movie.)

Mighty No. 9 began taking contributions in the fall of 2013, ultimately securing $3.8 million after asking for $900,000.
