After Aphex Twin's unreleased 1994 album Caustic Window went up for sale on Discogs, a Kickstarter initiative started thanks to Richard D. James' label Rephlex Records and the electronic music forum We Are The Music Makers (WATMM). The idea: Individuals could chip in to purchase the rights to that album, and in turn, receive a digital download of the LP for $16.
Today, the Kickstarter has ended, and it raised a whopping $67,424. (The goal was $9,300.) At least 4,115 people now have access to Caustic Window.
The physical LP is set to be auctioned on eBay. The proceeds from the sale will reportedly be split evenly between Rephlex/Aphex Twin, the people who paid into the Kickstarter, and a charity to be decided on by WATMM's users.
