The Veronica Mars movie will open in March next year, it has been confirmed.

The Kickstarter-funded movie, which sees Kristen Bell reprising her starring role from the Rob Thomas-created drama, will open in the US on March 14, 2014 - just over a year after the funding campaign was launched.

"Warner Bros had this date circled for quite some time and hoped it would stay open," Rob Thomas told Entertainment Weekly. "Luckily, no other teen detective movie decided to open in the middle of March."

Thomas also confirmed that the film - simply titled Veronica Mars - will receive a wider theatrical release in the US than was originally intended, although the exact number of screens is still to be confirmed.

Chris Lowell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Tina Majorino, Max Greenfield, Krysten Ritter and Ryan Hansen are among the stars reprising their roles in the Veronica Mars movie.

Bell has promised that fans can expect "the coolest cameo ever" in the forthcoming film.

The Veronica Mars movie met its Kickstarter funding target in 24 hours.
