Tomten Board Game Kickstarter Review

October 15th
Sometimes Google AI is your best friend – when the board game Tomten arrived on my doorstep looking like a cozy Christmas experience, I decided there had to be something more behind the name. A quick Google AI search turned up the best answer I think, “Tomten is a mythological creature from Scandinavian folklore who is often associated with the Christmas season and winter solstice.” It is worth noting that Chris, the designer of Tomten, provides a great explanation of the influences in his game! Can Tomten do more than just make us excited for snow, hot chocolate, and the festive season? Let’s find out! (Read More)

Kickstarter Tabletop Alert: 'Knitting Circle'

October 15th
Knitting Circle is a puzzly tile game for 1 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to play. It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a pledge level of $29 for a copy of the game. Although the game is branded as “A Calico Game,” it is a standalone and does not require Calico to play (and uses very different mechanics); however, if you do own Calico, you will be able to use the components from Knitting Circle to play a drafting variant of Calico so it can serve as a sort of mini-expansion. (Read More)

Kickstarter Tabletop Alert: It's All Over in 'Epilogue'

October 15th
Epilogue is a cooperative storytelling game for 1 to 10 players, ages 12 and up, and takes about 10–40 minutes to play (depending on how talkative everyone is). It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a pledge level of $26 for a copy of the game. The game’s theme is telling a story about death, which can go in a lot of different directions, but I would say in general this is something you could play with younger kids as long as they’re able to read and spell a little; it would also be easy to change up the subject matter if you wanted to use the deck to create other stories. (Read More)
