Just over a year after the videogame Double Fine Adventure set records on Kickstarter, talk about the crowdfunding leader is in the air at GDC, the Game Developers Conference being held this week in San Francisco. On the conference’s first day, ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux laid out “real numbers and trends” he had researched for indie game crowdfunding. He hastened to say upfront, though, that when he said “crowdfunding,” he really meant Kickstarter: “It’s so big, it’s basically the thing that’s relevant. … This is where it happens at the moment.” (Read More)
Drifter, buoyed by a Kickstarter, heads toward release later this year

I first saw Drifter, developer Colin Walsh's great space trading simulation, at last year's GDC. Back then, the game was a great idea, though Walsh's Celsius Game Studios had plenty of work to do. In the year in between, however, Walsh carried out a successful Kickstarter, picking up over $80,000 in support for the title. As a result, the game is not only coming out on iOS but also being released on PC and Mac, and Walsh has picked up composer Danny Baranowsky to do the music, as well as an artist to help him with the game's assets and UI.
