Riding a bike, scooter, or skateboard can be dangerous if one isn’t careful. This is especially true for the new generation of e-bikes and motorized scooters. As they go faster, riders need a helmet that can protect them in case of accidents at higher speeds. This is especially true during the daily commute around the metro. While there are cities that have adapted safe driving for two-wheeled vehicles, there are still many out there that don’t have that. Even if they did, people may not adhere to it, even if there are bike-specific lanes. While the law says you need to wear a helmet, it may not be enough to protect you in a high-speed collision.
The French company, THE BEAM, aims to address this to make riding safer for those whose transportation of choice is a two-wheel vehicle. One of their products is VIRGO, a cycling helmet for e-bike riders.
Safe riding
VIRGO helmets offer good visibility, an essential point when you are dodging city traffic, as well as enhanced protection. Compared to traditional bike helmets that only protect the top of your head, this one gives you full-face protection. It also protects your brain better than the average helmet. It has been built to reduce rotational motion resulting from oblique impacts. So if you get in an accident, you are fully protected in all directions.
In addition to safety, VIRGO was made with comfort in mind. It has switchable visor lenses, which means that you can adapt to virtually any type of weather and light visibility. The helmet also has an adjustable padding system. You can adjust the helmet on its rear and add padding to get the best possible fitting. Not to mention, it is also very light.
The VIRGO has a Kickstarter campaign and, as of this writing, is just a few hours away from completion. Its goal has also been met, with now more than $290,000 raised. If you want to catch it before the campaign ends, the helmet starts at $99 and comes in four colors: Carbon Black, Pure White, Warm Sand, and Midnight Blue.
