Solar lol: Powerful solar panel launches on Kickstarter

A powerful, lightweight and customizable solar panel called Solarlol is launching on Kickstarter. It comes in at 60 watts of power, is IP65 waterproof, and can be connected in parallel to increase power to 360 watts.

The Solarlol solar panel aims to stand out for its compelling performance and mobility. 60 watts performs one of the panels, up to six of them can be connected in series to increase the power to 360 watts. The panels still work independently of each other, so that the power is better distributed, even if not all collectors are exposed to full sun.

The Solarlol has a small LED display, which provides information about the sun intensity in real time.  The panel offers a variety of connections and is supposed to be compatible with almost all devices thanks to DC, USB QC 3.0, USB Type-C, Lightning and various adapters.

MacBook Pro and iPhone 14 Pro (our review) are said to be able to be charged in just one hour with the help of solar energy. However, given the iPhone’s manageable charging capacity, this is rather doubtful.

Compact and weatherproof

The SolarLol is waterproof according to IP65, scratch-resistant and also protected against damage from too long exposure to sunlight. A built-in chip also uses multiple protection mechanisms to ensure that the panel does not overcharge.

The solar panel weighs 1.8 kg and can be easily folded to a handy size of 45.5 cm x 26 cm x 2 cm. When unfolded, it captures the sun’s energy at a size of 106.5 x 45.5 x 0.5 cm and even has an adjustable kickstand to keep it ideally aligned with the sun.

It is also said to be highly efficient, capable of converting 23.5 percent of sunlight into solar energy – more than comparable competing products, according to the manufacturer.

Price and availability

The Solarlol solar panel is currently being crowdfunded via Kickstarter. There are still 5 days left for the campaign, which currently has 162 backers. From a price of 124 euros, you can secure one of the panels in the Christmas sale; alternatively, the manufacturer also offers backers bundles of two, three, four or six panels. Delivery is scheduled for February 2023 worldwide.
