When it comes to playing on your Nintendo Switch, you already have a number of different controller options, but what if you could also hook up your keyboard for a more PC-like experience? Well, this new Kickstarter campaign is hoping to let you do just that.
The Edgeguard Adapter is a small device which promises to get your USB keyboard (wired or wireless via dongle) hooked up to your Switch. You can see it in action in the video above where its creator, Daniel Kaspo, talks us through some of the ways in which a keyboard can enhance your gaming experience with titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
What's perhaps most interesting here, is that the adapter comes with a software app which allows you to fully customise your inputs. The video above boasts about having the ability to use keys to accurately hit 24 different input angles (where you'd usually rely on precise aiming with a control stick) and the software takes this further by letting you program each angle exactly how you'd like.
Similarly to Microsoft's Adaptive Controller, the adapter could also potentially change the game for those who struggle to use a traditional controller. Thanks to the customisation on offer here, a player who doesn't have full use of their hands could theoretically map their keyboard in a way that suits them - a very nice touch indeed.
You can read more about it and pledge your support on the adapter's Kickstarter page if you're interested; the campaign has 17 days to go and needs to raise another $8,000 to reach its target.
Before you go, though, make sure to let us know what you think of it in the comments below. Would you like to try some of your favourite Switch games with a keyboard?

If it can also map to mice then I'm all in.
This could be a huge game changer, and a great accessibility option for people that need them.
Like if you are unable to grip a controller or a joystick on an arcade style board, a keyboard is a good alternative.
I've heard that a keyboard and mouse was bad for smash, but splatoon on the other hand would be interesting to try
Hope this is successful. There are some Switch games I cannot play because of my arthritis, and this could help with that. Though it may be a bit pricey for me personally, but I still want it to exist.
I like this idea. I love using a keyboard for FPS games and I can think of many it would work better. Also it would keep me from investing in more controllers especially with the lame left Joycon killing my 16 bit gaming
Smash with a keyboard? Way ahead of you
I wonder if I just use a standard USB cable when using it on my dock or Hori USB playstand and yes it's a thing but I did noticed that a keyboard on YouTube on a Switch let's you use the arrow keys, enter and return keys letting you navigate the app without that adapter (just a little info for some)
I remember being fantastic with a keyboard at fighting games. You don't have to spend a moment to shift the joystick. Just hit a key. That and macros too. Even as a mediocre player I did fantastic compared to the competition.
THIS is how i want to play shooters.
Oh boy, I was waiting so long for an accessory that let me play Puyo Puyo Tetris/Tetris 99 like a real champ!
Looks very Gimmick but if you can attach a mouse as well... games like Doom etc will never be the same <3
@Luigivaldo You can already get the Gamo2 K28 for the Switch.
This adapter won't be released until at least mid 2021. Also quite expensive ($69).
But yeah, Nintendo should just support USB keyboards. The Switch has USB, use it Nintie.
Sure, if this allows for decent keyboard and mouse input.
But the Switch already has keyboard and mouse support. It's up to the game dev to allow it and so far that's just Fortnite. If Nintendo considers keyboard to be a valid input for Smash they'd just turn it on.
This already exists, with mouse support:

This Kickstarter project seems to be more customizable though.
If it is only the keyboard, I don't see a reason. But if they find a way to make the Switch work with a mouse too... then I'm interested.
It still needs kickstarter? Someone is probably manufacturing it already.
i really can't see using a keyboard as being useful for anything other typing out stuff. key boards are horrible as controllers
But why....? Who was asking for this ?
I love controller pads best.
Brook do a dongle that lets you use xbox one elite pads and best of all the back paddles so you can jump & shoot and still move the camera all at the same time.
