Shenmue 3 developers Ys Net announced that Kickstarter backer surveys will be going out in mid-September, and with them refund requests for anyone who doesn’t want an Epic Games store version of Shenmue 3. But know that refund requests will only accepted during the two-week survey period.

Kickstarter campaigns typically send out backer surveys before the release of the final product. This is where backers give their product preferences and shipping addresses for their final rewards. Ys Net’s Kickstarter update says that “refunds will be honored for backers who had selected a PC version and are not satisfied with the proposed reward options.”

However, the refund swill only be accepted through the backer survey which will be live for just a two-week window. After which, you’ll be unable to request a refund. Furthermore, refunds processing may take anywhere from 20 days to three months to process considering the Kickstarter campaign is over four years old and payment processing may have changed significantly in that time.

In June, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki announced that the previously announced PC version of Shenmue 3 was now going to be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Some backers were upset about this news. Especially since when the PC version was announced, it was announced for Steam. However, it should be important to know that the Epic Games Store did not exist when Shenmue 3 was announced.

Ys Net said it would "assess" the situation regarding the Epic Games Store exclusivity, and Epic Games announced that it would be handling the refund requests for anybody who requested it. But this is another example of blowback from certain groups of customers against the Epic Games Store.

Check out IGN’s Shenmue 3 preview and Shenmue 3 wiki for all the latest on Yu Suzuki’s long-awaited sequel.
