First look: The Cultured Caveman, Portland's first Paleo-friendly food cart goes brick and mortar (gallery)

Created out of a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012 by Heather Hunter and Joe Ban, The Cultured Caveman, Portland's first Paleo-friendly food cart, quickly grew to three locations across the city, and now, a soon-to-be-open brick and mortar, too.

Inside the 60+ seat, counter-service restaurant, guests will find long, communal tables, a dinosaur-themed play area for kids and a growing "Paleo market," stocked with apparel, Paleo products, literature, prepared meals, kombucha and eventually, frozen meats.

Expect numerous new menu items, (though you'll still be able to find chicken tenders), including a lamb shepherd's pie and raw salmon poke, in addition to cider, wine and Townshend's kombucha on tap. Make sure to keep an eye out for the cod liver oil shots for only $1.

"Many people feel isolated in their own diet and we want this place to be a safe space for them to be comfortable at," Hunter said.

The restaurant will also be a pick-up point for raw milk from Pokrov Farm in Sandy for shareholders.

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for more happenings, with a possible opening as soon as the next few days. All three cart locations will remain open.

The Cultured Caveman restaurant is located at 8233 N. Denver Ave., and will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
