Wizpr Ring: Smart ring with AI features launches on Kickstarter

Smart rings are becoming increasingly popular. Samsung is also already working on a Galaxy Ring, which is set to launch with smart functions later this year. However, previous models have mainly focused on health functions or mobile NFC payment, as in the case of the CNICK Payment Ring (our test). With the Wizpr Ring, an exciting solution is now being launched on Kickstarter that focuses on AI functions around ChatGPT, Gemini and co.

What’s inside the Wizpr Ring

The Wizpr Ring from VTouch is primarily designed for communication with AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini and others and has a microphone that allows requests and commands to be spoken directly into the ring. However, headphones are required to hear the answers.

Thanks to a built-in proximity sensor, the Smart Ring recognizes voice commands without the need to press a button and only responds to commands at close range. The microphone can also filter out ambient noise and should therefore always be able to reliably recognize the voice. As the name suggests, the ring should also be able to recognize even quiet whispers.

The ring currently recognizes six languages, including English, Spanish and German. If the Wizpr ring is moved away from the mouth again, the microphone is automatically deactivated.

Nevertheless, the ring has a button that can be used, for example, to read out notifications from the smartphone via the headphones without having to pick up the smartphone. Pressing it three times also starts the so-called “WhatsUp” function, which plays new notifications, calendar events, weather information and much more from the smartphone. If you press the button five times, an SOS function starts, whereupon the ring emits a loud alarm and sends a text message to your emergency contacts.

AI functions and Matter control

The main function of the Wizpr Ring is, of course, unobtrusive communication with AI chatbots, which should be possible without any special wake words. All conceivable AI chatbots are supported, above all ChatGPT and Gemini, although Amazon Alexa should also work. However, this requires pairing with the ring’s own smartphone app.

Anyone using smart home devices can also control IoT devices by voice command via the ring thanks to the integration of the Matter standard.

The Wizpr ring is available in eight different sizes between 6 and 13 and in the colors black and silver. It is made of titanium and is said to be correspondingly robust. Despite this, it only weighs around 4 grams and is IPX4 protected against splashing water – however, this standard is no longer sufficient for washing hands, so the ring should be removed.

The biggest sticking point, however, is the battery life, which the manufacturer claims to be 10 hours. In combination with the charging case, however, this can be extended to 60 hours.

Price and availability

The Wizpr Ring is currently being financed via Kickstarter. It starts at a price of 139.00 US dollars, which corresponds to around 128 euros. Once the crowdfunding campaign is complete, the ring will be available for 199 US dollars. Delivery is expected to start in July 2024.
