Analyzing the obliterated argument between imitation and inspiration

Crowsworn, like most indie games, starts with Kickstarter. The developer Mongoose Rodeo 2021 used this crowdfunding page to raise money for their new title in Metroidvania. The promise was huge. A beautifully animated trailer inspired us into the grim atmosphere with a heart-warming performance promoting the long-awaited action of combat and free practice. It’s just the story of Crowsworn, but as far as many indie games go, and it begins on Kickstarter. The developer Mongoose Rodeo 2021 used the crowdfunding page to raise money for their new project Metroidvania. And the promises were a bit tough. The beautifully animated trailer threw us into the grim atmosphere – promising fast, hand-to-hand combat and an exceptionally fast obstacle course.

In addition to the Kickstarter trailer, the website has an article with various goals that should be implemented after a certain amount of money has been donated. These goals include more interactive content, high quality animated scenes and the soundtrack, as well as more complex languages. This became concrete and we already promised to install a physical release. The supporter gets rewarded due to their contribution. Be it through fan items such as t-shirts and cuddly toys, earlier access to tests or even help with the game.

And this tactic has a higher ability. About one million supporters contributed more than two million dollars, which corresponds to approx. 800 000 euros. In just three hours, the base game was already funded. And after months of rain, all the donations, then all the other objectives were achieved. Until now, no more money is accepted via Kickstarter.

Source: Mongoose Rodeo After this groundbreaking success, the developer is still in the middle of the first game of his own. Many think the risk of crowdfunding isn’t a problem because it’s often claimed, that a lot of people think it’s likely to be interested in fraud. There are occasionally small videos or other updates, as well as blog posts on social media such as Twitter/X and Kickstarter.

Crowsworn Wearing the plague mask against the dark.

But what is crowsworn? In the trailers and the multiple nifty updates, we have already seen a lot of the game. The game is in the remark of Metroidvania, which is built on the Burgundy and Metroid franchises. The most significant problem with these games is large game-world, which can be easily opened by collecting upgrades. In addition to being around the map, different areas mark the map. We even stand with enemies.

What: Rodeo de la Mongoa.

The playable character wears a red robe and a plague mask and carries weapons such as a scythe and a pistol. Overall, he sounds like an oversized raven. We get to see everything we expect from a title in Metroidvania. Fast paced gameplay, skills and parkour elements are key elements of the Crowsworn experience.

Of course, an upgrade doesn’t have to be missed. As the story progresses, we collect and transplant different components and then to the corps to earn a bonus. You can evade some moves with other weapons or special effects, such as increased damage and death costs.

A thin copy!

Crowsworn was backed by the developers successfully and it seems to be interesting, too. What is the problem now? Many fans love thrillers like Hollow Knight. Team Cherry released their indie game back in 2017. And it’s become a massive hit. That is three million copies sold by 2022. This attention brought many new people in the platformer community. What only two developers did with their game was really remarkable.
