do you spend your day typing from a flat, uncomfortable keyboard? *nods in bad posture* well, you might be interested in this ergonomic keyboard designed by stephen cheng and chris andreae. called ‘glove80’, each key is positioned to allow access within the span of your fingertips, meaning minimal motions and fewer awkward movements. the goal is to help users type faster for longer and to maintain a healthy typing posture at all times.

a reconfigurable ergonomic keyboard
the finger keys are arranged in columns in a curved keywell to follow the curves drawn by our fingertips when we naturally curl our fingers. for each thumb, glove80 has 6 thumb keys arranged in 2 arcs at different heights. this innovative design makes it possible for each thumb to easily reach all 6 thumb keys without palm movement, facilitating the underused thumbs to take over the workload of the pinkie fingers.
glove80 is also totally configurable, from adjusting to the user’s shoulder width, to changing the preferred wrist tenting angle, to supporting any key layout. the keycaps are also uniform and therefore re-arrangeable, making it simple to adapt to dvorak, colemak, or any other layout.
glove80 has wireless bluetooth capabilities, eliminating the need for messy cables. light and compact, it’s easy to bring glove80 with you to the meeting room, the café, or wherever you need to work.
if you’re feeling adventurous, the split design of glove80 also makes it easy to do custom mounting. a captain’s chair setup such as the one in the photo below is not only functional and comfortable but also simple to build.

the final keyboard design took cheng and andreae six years to develop and more than 500 different ergonomics experiments to find the perfect position and angle for each key.
the designers say, ‘we built modular test rigs that let us quickly swap out parts of the keyboard to test many variations. the best part was that the test rigs looked and operated like normal keyboards so our testers could test how our designs perform in real life.’
