A Kickstarter campaign has been launched for platform fighting game Fraymakers by McLeodGaming. The studio set a goal of £34,758 (roughly $46,000) for an Early Access release on PC via Steam, aiming for an early 2022 release.

The customizable brawler features a character roster filled with indie game icons, and it looks like its premise has already won over the gaming community. Within 24 hours of the Kickstarter's launch, Fraymakers had already surpassed its goal, with the accrued funds sitting at £54,520 (roughly $72,217) with 1,344 backers at the time of writing. The team from McLeodGaming wrote a message of thanks to all their supporters and set out a roadmap for future stretch goals, including the addition of a doubled stage count and an alternate soundtrack.

From the creators of Super Smash Flash 2 and the PC fangame Smash Bros., McLeodGaming has gathered a playable cast of hand-animated characters from a wide range of indie titles, including Welltaro from Downwell, Orcane from Rivals of Aether, Ultra Fishbunjin 3000 from Slap City, The Watcher from Slay the Spire, Octodad from Octodad, and CommanderVideo from the Bit.Trip series. The fighting game will accommodate up to four players and will release simultaneously with FrayTools, a character building hub where additional assists, stages and modes can be created for no additional cost.

Fraymakers Early Access version will feature at least four characters from the confirmed line-up, five stages, 20 assists, rollback netcode, and interrogation. Early Access will also make FrayTools available for the aforementioned custom builds. The game will stay within Early Access for roughly two years while the full version gets developed in tandem with the Kickstarter’s progress. McLeodGaming has designed Fraymakers to be welcoming to newcomers - with its easy-to-pick-up mechanics - and challenging for more accustomed fighting game enthusiasts.

Rivals of Aether: Definitive Edition arrived on Nintendo Switch and PC back in September, featuring Orcane the water element fighter featured in Fraymakers. Slay the Spire developer Mega Crit Games also announced that it was releasing a mobile port of the popular deck-builder.
