We have two board games, a handy 5e reference kit, and another impressive Wyrmwood product for you this week in our Kickstarter roundup.

Tome of Summoning

Via Kickstarter

Every so often, something comes along that makes perfect sense, and we wonder how we have lived without it! Nothing could be more true than the Tome of Summoning: The All-In-One 5e Reference System. Funded in less than four hours, it makes the perfect companion for Games Masters everywhere. Contained within the purple leather binder and plastic pockets, sized to store the accompanying handy reference cards that are based upon the open game rules for 5th edition. Paper minis are also included that have been appropriately sized for use on grid mats and have a scaled footprint that matches their in-game sizes. Finally, we have a matching GMs screen and a uniquely shaped, hexagon Inspiration coin. Full details for the Tome of Summoning can be found on their Kickstarter page.

Cascadia

Via Kickstarter

Our second choice comes from Flatout Games, the team that brought us Calico! Described as a “puzzly tile-laying game of habitats & wildlife,” Cascadia takes us into the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. The strategy board games is designed for one to four players with an average playtime of 30 - 45 minutes, with easy to learn rules that players of all ages should be able to master.

Players attempt to make sprawling wildlife habitats that sit alongside flowing rivers. Once the tiles are placed players can then populate their habitats with indigenous species, taking into consideration the creatures living requirements of course. The game’s artwork by Beth Sobel is truly outstanding and creates the perfect ambiance to play. The Kickstarter edition of the game is amazing value for money, coming in at $29 with some very affordable shipping on top of that. For more information on Cascadia visit their Kickstarter page.

Streets

Via Kickstarter

Sinister Fish Games’ Streets was funded in an amazing 71 minutes and has raised over seven times the original goal! Streets is a tile-laying game designed for 1-5 players. The goal is to build a bustling neighborhood through careful town planning. Streets should be laid carefully allowing for buildings to be constructed nearby. These will be inhabited by a variety of meeples including hipsters, tourists, shoppers, and parents that influence the resale value of a property. The objective is to make as much money as possible.

The game is available in two editions; a standard, and a Kickstarter exclusive deluxe edition. Both share the same core content but the deluxe edition features screen printed meeples of 8 different designs as well as wooden tokens instead of card-based. The Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table

Via Kickstarter

This one's a couple of weeks old now but it recently crossed the $8 million threshold. There are not that many people making gaming furniture, let alone ones that look as amazing and professional as this one. The table is handmade by a master craftsman from a selection of different wood options, including Cherry, Walnut and Maple. A lot of care and thought has gone into making the most use of the available space with some innovative storage options not found anywhere else.

The Wyrmwood team are veterans at Kickstarter and made their name with exquisite handcrafted, wooden gaming accessories such as dice, deck holders, and GMs screens. However, this is their first foray into Kickstarter furniture. For more information on the Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table check out their Kickstarter page.

It’s great to see so many novel board games consistently turn up on Kickstarter. It really has become a platform for indie creators and established studios alike. It is important to remember that there are no guarantees that a product will be delivered. You are backing a creator to help fund their dream. While there are the odd bad-eggs, thankfully these can be weeded out allowing us to back these creators with confidence. Our only regret is how empty our wallets are at the end of each month.
