Frosthaven is the upcoming sequel to Gloomhaven, one of the best board games of all time. Publisher Cephalofair Games was set to launch its Kickstarter on March 24, but the team is now moving that launch back one week. With the increasing number of quarantine and lockdown surrounding COVID-19, Cephalofair has run into a few speed bumps as they prepped for launch. So, while the team continues to work remotely, it's going to take a bit longer for "the party" to start. It's not all bad news, as you'll see below.

While no one wants to wait for the Frosthaven Kickstarter, it's much better that the team takes its time to deliver the best campaign and product possible. Gloomahaven was a massive undertaking for Cephalofair and you can rest assured that Frosthaven will only build on that. If it takes an extra week, then I'm definitely willing to give it. Plus, designer Issac Childres has a big idea in the works that will make the wait a little easier.

Childres is putting together a new community-driven campaign for Gloomhaven. I've participated in a few of these so far, and they are a ton of fun. Basically, each day Childres will drop a new scenario for you to play through. At the end, there will be a choice between two or more options. You can then go to Board Game Geek and vote for the one you want. Based on which option gets the most votes, Childres will put together the next scenario and you'll go from there. It's a ton of fun to play with the community, but even if you can't, the scenarios still stand up to play long after. It will surely be more than enough to keep your table occupied until March 31.

The other good news coming out of today's announcement concerns the actual campaign itself. Obviously, with the ongoing worldwide concerns around COVID-19, many people will be hesitant to spend $100+ on a board game right now. So, Cephalofair will give $1 pledges access to the pledge manager. This means you can essentially reserve the right to buy Frosthaven at a later date once your funds are mort stable. It's a great move from the team that should accommodate a ton of people.

Frosthaven launches on Kickstarter March 31. On March 24, Issac Childres will kick off The Blacksmith and the Bear, a new community-driven campaign for Gloomhaven.
