Ouya Console Starts Shipping to Kickstarter Backers With 104 Games

Just as promised, the Kickstarter-funded, Android-based gaming console Ouya has started shipping March 28.

Users will be happy to know there are already 104 published games for the console, and all are free to try. The available titles include Final Fantasy III, Beast Boxing Turbo, Stalagflight and more.

According to Ouya, 8,000 developers have created developer accounts for the system, and new games should be coming "every day".

Though Kickstarter backers will undoubtedly be happy to get their hands on Ouya, the console comes with a couple of caveats that won't sit well with everyone.

First, as soon as users boot up Ouya, a software update will happen. While Ouya promises it will be "super fast," it's reminiscent of Nintendo's Wii U launch troubles, which prompted Nintendo president Satoru Iwata to apologize to users.

Also, users will have to enter credit card details before they download games, even free ones. Some commenters on Ouya's Kickstarter page weren't very happy about the fact.

"Honestly, i really don't see why you think the credit/debit card information needs to be added before one even downloads a game? How does that ensure it any better than allowing users to download the free games and then adding the information when i want to buy something," wrote one user in a comment.

Ouya's journey has just begun; the software is bound to be upgraded many times before the Ouya becomes available to everyone, which should happen in June. It'll be interesting to see how it copes with the issues mentioned above and what kind of support it will receive from developers.
