OUYA, the $99 hack-able Android game console, announced it will ship the console to its Kickstarter backers March 28.
The console shattered Kickstarter records during its campaign, raising more than $1 million in 24 hours and raising more than $8.6 million total.
OUYA founder Julie Uhrman made the announcement in a blog post Thursday morning. The post also says that the OUYA is still on schedule for a full retail launch in June.
The OUYA is unique in that anyone can develop for the console, as each unit includes its own SDK. The company is still working to bring big development names into the fold; the blog post mentioned that Kim Swift, known for her work on Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead, will develop a console-exclusive title.
"We truly feel that this platform will give us the freedom to fully realize the funky, unique game we have in mind. Though the title will definitely appeal to core gamers in terms of skill and difficulty, it really has a completely unexpected, imaginative slant that’s totally at home on this console," Swift was quoted in the blog post saying.
Minority Media, the creators of the emotional indie title Papo & Yo, also were confirmed to be working on an OUYA title that will come out this fall.
The blog says Kickstarter backers should start watching their email for a tracking number and confirmed delivery date.
